Edel DVR Wedges: Review

Picking the right wedge can be a real game-changer.
But it's also true that choosing the right wedge can be one of the hardest things in club fitting.
Do you pick based on the numbers you see on Trackman, or do you go with your feelings? With your short game clubs, in my opinion, "feel" is so important that you cannot ignore it when choosing them.

For me, getting my three Edel wedges (50°, 56°, 60°) has been one of the most eye-opening changes in my club setting. And I'm not getting paid to say this so I hope you understand the honesty in that statement.

So what are the advantages of using an "Edel" wedge?
First of all, I love the look of an Edel wedge. It really suits my eyes.

This is a comparison between my old wedge (left) and the newer Edel wedge (right). They are both 56°, but you can see the difference between the cleanness of the head. To me, it is clear that the Edel wedge is less bulky compared to my old one. It looks sculpted and sharp.

Secondly, Edel wedges are super helpful for tight lies.
This is a side view of the two wedges. You can see how the one on the right sits better on the ground. This is also on a putting matt so the lie is extremely tight with no space under the club heads. Edel wedges set up very easily on any lie, so I can have more control- and control is key to short-game.

Lastly, it is very easy to control the trajectory with these wedges.

I think a lot of players can master a low/medium trajectory with the majority of the wedges sold in stores. But high trajectory shots or even flop-shots are very difficult to execute when the clubhead doesn't sit well on the ground. Also, Edel's heads tend to slide better than my previous wedges, which makes it a suitable club for any bunker shots. This is due to the shape of the head as you can see in the pictures below.

Edel creates these smooth, unique heads which makes it easy for the players to slide under the ball with ease. There is little resistance when the head comes to contact with the ball.

I would say these are my top three reasons for using an Edel wedge.

What are the disadvantages?
It is hard for me to come up with many disadvantages for this wedge, but I can see some players not preferring the smaller clubface or not liking the look of it. Also, I had to bend the lie angle a lot as soon as a got the wedge. The leading edge is pretty sharp in an Edel wedge, and without fixing the lie angle I couldn't help hitting the ball heel first and over-turning the clubface for a hook. I flattened it to a 58.5° lie angle and it is perfect now.

I also have not yet tried other wedge types by Edel, and I am curious to see if there is a better fit for me than the DVR type.
