March: 2 TORO Tour Events

In March, I was able to compete in two 3-day tournaments on the Toro Tour. 

Toro Tour is a new mini-tour in Malaga (South of Spain) for professionals seeking competition during the off-season. It is approximately a 6-hour drive from Madrid. 


The first week, I played in Valle Romano, a beautiful venue in Estepona. 

The weather was not favorable and the first day of the event was postponed. As a result, I ended up playing 32 holes and 22 holes in two days. It was a true golf marathon. The condition was difficult with gusty wind and occasional rain, but I was extremely grateful to get 3 rounds in. 


The following week, I played another event in Azata Golf, right across Valle Romano. Another beautiful course, but extremely challenging with the wind despite being short.  
I struggled a lot the first two days but was able to shoot -2 in the back nine on the last day. 


There is definitely room for improvement, but I am happy I still have 2 months to work on my game until my official LETAS season starts. 

I don't know how many more tournaments I can play in before the season, so being able to compete two weeks in a row was extremely helpful. I look forward to building on this feedback, and competing this season in the best shape!

Little about me, my goals, and purpose/ まほです！よろしくお願いします！

Hi, for those of you that don't know me, I'd like to give you a little introduction of myself. My name is Maho Hayakawa, I am a Japanese golfer playing tournaments around the world. I moved to Dubai when I was 7, and that's where I started playing golf with my family. I was lucky I got to continue playing the game; I moved to Japan and Mexico after I left Dubai, but both countries had good golfing environment (less so in Japan) and I was able to continue competing. I spent 2 years of high school at the Mike Bender Golf Academy in Lake Mary, Fl, training with Mike Bender. I just graduated from University of Virginia where I played on the golf team, and I turned professional right after I graduated, in 2018. For the past year and a half, I've been competing in Eggland's Golf Tour, Cactus Tour, Japan Ladies Circuit, and Japanese ATP tournaments. My goal is to play on a Ladies Professional Tour, and as of October 2018, I am preparing to play the 2020 LET Q

Updates from Japan・日本でゴルフ

Hi, hope you’re all having a good summer! I want to first apologize for not updating the blog frequently. My keypad on my laptop broke and with moving, practicing, adjusting to Japan, I had a hard time securing time to sit and write. A lot has happened since the last post-  first, I didn’t make it past 2nd stage of pro test in Japan :( It was really disappointing because I didn't play well at all, and when I think about it now,  I really didn't prepare for it the way I wanted to. I turned professional in May, and ever since then, I feel like I had too much going on and was never fully focused on the "present." I think the hardest thing about becoming a professional athlete is dealing with uncertainty. I think it's different if you already have status on some tour and have a set schedule, but as for now, I am trying to get status for the following season, so nothing is really set.
